Season 4 Events Primer

One of the first things fans will notice this year is that there’s now more time between events. Even though there’s no shortage of great tournaments to be a part of, we would rather make the pacing more manageable instead of forcing attendees to pick and choose.

Our goal for the circuit is to make each event one worth traveling to. Each stop on the circuit promises new cities, more games, high quality production, and the biggest stages for Rivals players to compete on. This year we’ve continued the tradition of representing our community alongside the greater FGC, and have even expanded to some exciting new events to keep tournaments bigger and better.

This season also features much fewer online events than previous years. While online events are easy to join, we’ve heard loud and clear that players prefer the competitive integrity of offline events for the official circuit. The ones we do feature on the circuit this year will be huge, but not a place to get your weekly or monthly tournament fix like previous seasons. Make sure to visit our discord server and check out the tournament section for daily online events.

Finally, one other notable reason we’ve slimmed down our event schedule is to allow the flourishing grassroots scene room to grow. This is something we’ve been honored and humbled to see happening, and this year seemed like the right time to let these events really come into their own. These are events where Rivals is the focus, the schedule is dedicated to it, the stream is dedicated to it, and the fans are coming out for it – so make sure to support these events when you can.

We hope you’re excited to watch and attend our events this year! Let us know what you think of the schedule in the comments below.

Rivals of Aether now includes Russian as a language option! Localized by our very own team member Nick (ampersandbear), you can access it by navigating to options > display > language in the settings.

Since this localization is something Nick has been working on in addition to normal development tasks, we’re including it as a “beta” version. As we get closer to open support for other translations we welcome our Russian speaking community to play this version and offer your feedback. If you have any improvements or comments to share please send them to [email protected], or contact us through any of our social media.

Custom Language Support

Attentive players might also have noticed that we now have a “Custom” option listed in the language settings after Russian. This allows you to add your own localizations.

This custom language is completely editable by you and controlled through a file we’ve included in the game’s directory. Since external language support is currently under development (as mentioned above), not all text characters may display properly yet. You can reference one of our LOC files and edit the LOC_CUSTOM file to begin your own localization.

To get started:
1. Right click on Rivals of Aether in your Steam library and select “Properties”.
2. In the “LOCAL FILES” tab select “BROWSE LOCAL FILES…”.
3. Open up “LOC_CUSTOM.txt” and one of our “LOC” files (EN,JP,RU) for reference in your favorite text editor.

We’d love to see what people do with this, so feel free to reach out to us and share any translations you’re working on.

Gamers on The Edge Charity Buddy

You might have noticed that our latest buddy, Aldor, is a bit different than the others. And we don’t just say that because he can fly.

Aldor is special because each purchase goes towards Gamers on The Edge, a gaming charity making a difference in the lives of sick kids. This new buddy is available exclusively through their website at Buddy4TheKids.com.

While we sincerely appreciate everyone who sends their support online, we’re also providing a prize for Gaming on The Edge’s upcoming local charity tournament – a travel voucher towards the waterpark event Smash’N’Splash 5.

If you’re near Clearwater, FL (or can travel) we highly recommend checking it out. Thank you to everyone supporting charity through gaming!

Introducing Tuxedo Ranno

In a collaboration between Tuxedo Esports and Rivals of Aether, you can now obtain the slickest version of Ranno that has ever set foot in Aether.

Ever since Tuxedo won our Rivals Rep Icon Contest, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to create this brand new skin with them. We hope you enjoy the results!

Features Include:

  • Ranno fights without his patented poison sash in order to look more dapper.
  • He fires roses with thorns instead of poison darts.
  • He wears a tuxedo! Every sprite has been redrawn with suit and tie.
  • When he taunts, he throws a rose! It reminds us of something…

Proceeds from this skin are split 50/50 between Tuxedo and Rivals of Aether Esports. If you’d like a way to get a sweet skin and support competitive Rivals at the same time, this is a great way to do both.
